  • Accounting Standards: Businesses in KSA have to follow the Saudi Organisation for Certified Public Accountants (SOCPA) which is aligned with IFRS standard. However, SOCPA also includes Zakat (religious tax) which is not mentioned in the IFRS.   • Accounting Year: Accounting in KSA states taxable year will follow the states fiscal year. A tax paying company’s fiscal year starts along with registration. For every accounting period, the company is required to have complete accounting records of the corresponding year.
  • 30 year tax exemption: With proper accounting records, MNCs can benefit from the 30 years tax free policy in KSA. This includes 0% Corporate Tax and 0% Withholding Tax (WH) for approved entities. 
  • Public Companies: Public entities in KSA are required to publish their annual records of financial details within six months after the last financial year. This includes income, cashflow, balance sheet and other details regarding the operations from last year. Records must be published in Arabic language and use Saudi Riyal (SR) as the currency, but exceptions are done for MNCs and in the Oil and Gas industry. 
  • Private Companies: Private companies should publish their accounting reports done by auditors who are approved by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in KSA. Banks are required to have two independent auditors, while LLCs and Joint Stock companies have at least one independent auditor. Companies that exceed the capital of SR100,000 must have a general ledger, daily journal and inventory book.
